Plastic Recycle Challenge

The Phelps Woman’s Club is sponsoring a plastic recycle program

The Phelps Woman’s Club will be participating in a plastic film recycling challenge.  The club along with the help of the community will work to collect more than 1000 pounds of soft film plastics and packaging from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.  The recycled plastic film will be diverted from ending up in landfills and waterways.   The collected plastic will be delivered to Trex and be given new life as sustainable Trex decking. The Nextrex composite decking is made from 95% recycled materials.

Once we have collected 1000 pounds of plastic, Nextrex will award us with a Trex Earth-friendly composite bench for our Phelps Lakeside Park.

Items that can be recycled include grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, ziploc and other reclosable food storage bags, cereal bags, salt bags, case overwrap, produce bags, wood pellet bags, and pellet wrap and stretch film. All plastics need to be clean, dry and free of food residue.

You may drop off your clean, soft film plastics in the collection bins at the following locations Phelps School, 4451 Old School Road; Phelps Town Hall, 4495 Town Hall Road; and Phelps Chamber of Commerce, 2429 Highway 17.  The town hall and chamber bins are located outside the buildings while the school bin is inside.
