3. Trail Construction History by Rollie Alger, Project Manager
· Began in 2010 and completed Fall, 2021
· 10.2 miles long; 2 miles paved and 8,2 miles crushed gravel
· 8.2 miles on abandoned railroad bed with 2% – 3% elevations
· The remaining 2 miles of trail are hilly and varies in elevation by 105’
· The majority of trail is located on Vilas County owned lands and ROW
· Other parts of the trail are located on property owned by the Town of Conover, the Town of Phelps, the USDA, the State of Wisconsin and the trail crosses several parcels of private property for which easements were granted. Thank you to all property owners for your cooperation and support of this trail construction
· Thank you also to the neighbors along the trail who baked cookies for the construction crews.
