Deputy Clerk/Treasurer
Part Time
The Town of Phelps is seeking applications for the part-time Deputy Clerk/Treasurer position. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Clerk/Treasurer.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, excels at working independently/multi-tasking, and has a willingness to be in the office for 25-30 hours per week (including some evening hours). Opportunities for advancement include the possibility of increasing hours (benefits are offered at 30 hours/week) and/or promotion to the Clerk/Treasurer position within the next several years.
Typical Duties and Obligations in assisting the Clerk/Treasurer include, but not limited to:
- General Office Administration (answer telephone, basic accounting, budgeting, filing, recordkeeping, etc.)
- Election Administration and WisVote Certification
- Licensing (dogs, picnics, liquor, cemetery deeds)
- Property Tax Collection
- Board Meetings (agendas, attend, take notes, draft minutes)
- Website (maintenance, keep citizens up to date)
- Human Resources Administration
- Continuing Education (workshops, conferences)
Preferred Experience/Proficiency in:
- MS Word, Adobe, Excel, QuickBooks
- General Accounting Principles
- Professional Communication Skills – oral, written, electronic
- Municipal Budgeting
Previous municipal experience is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided as needed to an otherwise qualified candidate.
