Deputy Clerk/Treasurer

Part Time

 

The Town of Phelps is seeking applications for the part-time Deputy Clerk/Treasurer position. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Clerk/Treasurer.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, excels at working independently/multi-tasking, and has a willingness to be in the office for 25-30 hours per week (including some evening hours). Opportunities for advancement include the possibility of increasing hours (benefits are offered at 30 hours/week) and/or promotion to the Clerk/Treasurer position within the next several years.

Typical Duties and Obligations in assisting the Clerk/Treasurer include, but not limited to:

  • General Office Administration (answer telephone, basic accounting, budgeting, filing, recordkeeping, etc.)
  • Election Administration and WisVote Certification
  • Licensing (dogs, picnics, liquor, cemetery deeds)
  • Property Tax Collection
  • Board Meetings (agendas, attend, take notes, draft minutes)
  • Website (maintenance, keep citizens up to date)
  • Human Resources Administration
  • Continuing Education (workshops, conferences)

Preferred Experience/Proficiency in:

  • MS Word, Adobe, Excel, QuickBooks
  • General Accounting Principles
  • Professional Communication Skills – oral, written, electronic
  • Municipal Budgeting

Previous municipal experience is preferred, but not required.  Training will be provided as needed to an otherwise qualified candidate.
